This academic paper by @scgphotographer is one of the most insightful and important studies on NFTs and data permanence I've seen so far.

Three things needed for immutable art: 1. Non updateable onchain tokenURI 2. Which references a native protocol address 3. For metadata / media which is permanent. The last one is the most difficult. Be it @IPFS, @ArweaveEco, @Filecoin, all have their strengths and weaknesses.
