Anyone who thinks that this conflict ends with a reasonable peace deal or unilateral Trump withdrawal taco is probably naively mistaken, myself included. These are the reasons why: Although that seems the rational choice on paper, the truth is that this war cannot conclude until Iran has inflicted a fait accompli disastrous enough upon the Israeli nexus wherein they themselves pursue for peace via Trump. Ironically, this did happen back when the 12-Day War happened, as Netanyahu reached out through Putin (Chabad influence) to tell Iran they were not pursuing a true regime change war at the time. This is because they were heavily concerned about the Iranian response in the event where the Iranians thought it was fully existential. This time, the Israelis feel they can take that gamble, and they also feel that this is their last chance as no one after Trump will ever give blank checks to Israel, and increasingly likely, no checks at all -- literally and figuratively. Whenever this next -- and final -- round of the war kicks off, it will be the final one. It will be heavily countervalue -- you can see this in the messaging of leaked UAE and Israeli cables to the White House. Both feel that the only way Iran will lose confidence is heavy counter-value (read: civilian) damage. Iran's only response, in a Game Theory perspective, is to out-do that. On paper, it's easy because both Israel and the UAE are 10000x more sensitive to damage, both military and civilian, than Iran. Whether the likes of Vahidi and the IRGC core cadre will retain enough influence over reformists for this to unfold will be the real test.
